A3 Parent and Family Weekly News | September 28-October 2

From the Counselor, Wendy Zacharias

Dear A3 Student and Family,

I hope this email finds you healthy and well. I understand that you have chosen to attend A3. Given the nature of this school year,  and all the changes we have endured, I wanted to ease your mind by letting you know that I will continue to be a connection and support for you as your counselor, while you are attending A3. There are so many considerations that we will want to connect on as we move through this year and throughout your high school experience so that you are able to graduate on time, ready for your next steps into college or career.

Here are just a few considerations for you-

  • Graduation Plan and Check-in

o   Are you on track to graduate with your class? (graduation requirements)

o   What are your career and life interests?

o   Let’s create a schedule that supports exploring your interests

  •   Post-High School Planning

o   Exploring career interests and colleges

o   College credit earning opportunities in high school

  •   Community Engagement

o   How are you engaging with your school community?

o   Are there opportunities you would like to explore by joining clubs and activities?

As you can see, there are a number of areas and ways that I will continue to provide you support. These are just a few that are critical for keeping you on track for high school graduation and prepared for your next steps, after high school.

I look forward to continuing our work together and finding a time to meet. If you need to connect with me, you may call me  at 541-726-3232 Ext 77213 or email me at  wendy.zacharias@springfield.k12.or.us or we can set up a meeting on Google Meet.

Guidelines for “People Who Go/Went” Facebook Page

Hi all, it’s Ame. Hoping you are well and have had a great start to the year. We are missing you all so much and can’t wait to see you in person! I am reaching out to you because  we were recently approached by students asking us to develop a set of standards for this Facebook page. We are the only school in the district that does not require that every post be approved via a page admin prior to posting. What was happening is that once in a great while, a post would be pulled off the page due to the nature of the comments or content.

I believe if possible, in making decisions based on a community model. Therefore, I worked with the Leadership team to develop the proposed language along with the students who originally brought forth the concern. Next, I took it to district staff, our building staff, the parent group and the student Maintenance crew for their feedback.

Here is the proposed guidelines for the Facebook page moving forward, this will be pinned to the top of the “People Who Go/Went” page:

“A3 community:

This forum is intended to be a place for members of the A3 to share information and resources about the A3 school community and related subjects. When using this forum, please be sure to adhere to our community agreements: Be Open, Be Present, Equity Matters, and Speak Up. The forum will be monitored by the forum administrators regularly. Posts and comments that are found to be in conflict with the schools community agreements, irrelevant or inappropriate to the purpose of this forum or potentially disruptive to the educational environment at A3 may be removed by administrators. If you feel like one of your posts or comments has been removed inappropriately you may email the Principal, Ame (ame.beard@springfield.k12.or.us) or the Dean of Students, Andy (andrew.hock@springfield.k12.or.us) with your concerns.

Thanks,

The Forum Administrators”

I want to explain that while I have no intention in any way of limiting your freedom of speech, but I do need to make sure the safety of all students are maintained. I do not want to restrict productive conversations about hard topics. A3 has an amazingly diverse community and that is to be celebrated and commended. There is a time and place for all the conversations that should be had for our own personal growth.

If you would like to discuss this further with me or give me feedback, you may email me at: ame.beard@springfield.k12.or.us.
