Welcome to A3’s Music Department

At A3 our students focus not only on playing and performing music, but also in composition. A3 music majors compose their own works and they are played by the A3 music ensembles, frequently featuring guest artists from Chamber Music Amici, Swing Shift, and the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies.

Course Descriptions:

Music Fundamentals

A basic course in reading & learning about music.

Music Composition

A basic course in learning to write & compose music.

Jazz Composition

An advanced course in music composition where students will learn to compose specifically Jazz music.

Film Composition

An advanced course in music composition where students will learn to compose specifically for film projects and as underscores.

Instrumental Ensemble

Students will perform a variety of compositions, from classical to contemporary. Students provide their own instrument.

Jazz Improvisation

An advanced instrumental ensemble, the class will perform a variety of jazz ensemble music.

Vocal Ensemble

A course for beginning to advanced vocalists.

Advanced Vocal Ensemble

Entry by audition only. Focus on jazz and classical music.

A Capella Choir

A course for beginning vocalists that focuses on unaccompanied music.

Advanced Studio

Senior majors may take as many as four Advanced Studio classes as part of their major work. Students will meet with their major advisors to work out projects and due dates, come up with implementation and evaluation plans, and then productions or demonstrations. Studio time can include off campus college classes as well as independent study or internships.
